What’s In Your Soap:

Most industrial or commercial soaps that you can buy in the grocery store aren't really soaps at all. (Does your soap actually have the words "soap" written any place on the label?) They are detergents derived from cheap animal by-products and/or petroleum products. They are typically preserved with chemicals that can be irritating to your skin. Most are artificially scented and artificially dyed. Commercial soaps contain ingredients like Stearic Acid, Sodium Isethionate, BHT, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Titanium Dioxide, Tetrasodium, EDTA, Trisodium Etidronate, Sodium Dodecybenzenesulfonate.

The primary ingredient in most commercial soap is beef tallow. Tallow is used for mass-producing soap because it processes quickly, produces a hard bar and is a cheap and plentiful by-product of the beef industry. Frontier pioneers had few alternatives to the use of animal fats for making soap. Further, tallow is considered by some to clog pores, cause blackheads, and increase eczema for those individuals with sensitive skin. Today, however, there are many high quality vegetable oils which are better alternatives.

What’s in Our Soap:

We aren’t fancy people so when we find something that performs well over time, we tend to stay loyal to it. Over several hundred batches of hand-crafted soap here at the The Walker Honey Farm Store, we have settled on a great bar of soap that lathers, cleanses and is good for your skin. It all starts with our Beeswax—right from the hive. We also use some high quality oils that saponify nicely. Every bar of Walker’s Homemade Soap has Coconut, Palm, Canola, Olive, Soybean and Castor Oils as well as Cocoa Butter. And, YES!, of course we add some HONEY! So rich and good for your skin.

To our basic Beeswax Recipe, we make some bars with added Lavender, Milled Oats, Goat’s Milk, or other Natural Essential Oils.
